i work for a dealership as a tech. lexus has actually had a problem with flare shifts for years, it started with the rx330 if i remember correctly. the situation was a customer came to a rolling yield (not a complete stop)  from cruising speeds around 40mph or so. instead of coming to a complete stop they reaccelerated and the transmission as lexus stated to us in the field, the transmission stayed in a higher gear until it determined whether or not it needed to down shift or maintain its current gear range. all of the previous transmission flares with the es330 and the rx330 up the the current models a simple ecu update helped. im not sure why they are replacing hard parts for the es350 but lol, they have not gotten it write yet so why not try something new.

Thanks for the insights.

This sounds like what I experienced in the Saab. I'd lift off the gas to give a touch of trailing throttle oversteer entering a turn, then when I dipped back into the throttle the transmission wouldn't reengage for a second or so, letting the revs momentarily shoot up. Same thing?

Still not enough responses to post results for the ES. The Camry is among the results I recently posted, though:

I'm preparing the August results. Still not enough responses for the ES. More participants would help a great deal. I will have results for nearly 100 other models.

Those results:

Vehicle reliability research

Hopefully I'll have enough responses to include the ES in the next results, in November. A few more participants would certainly help.

I have a 2008 ES350. What information are you collecting? So far (two weeks, 400 miles), the problems have been minor. It is my first luxury car.

The best time to join is when the car is new. I send out a monthly email with links to the surveys. Most months, no response is needed unless the car required a repair the previous month. Then there's a one-page survey. Otherwise, only an approximate odometer reading is needed the first month and then at the end of every quarter--this takes about a minute (much less if you're quick). The subject line of the email specifies whether or not a response is needed that month.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Updated results next month. Currently I'm just a few responses short of the minimum for the 2007. A few more participants could make all the difference.

Still a couple responses short, it's going to be close.
