Resetting Oil Change Reminder Message (U.S.A. models only)

The multi-information display on the instrument cluster will show the following messages with respect to oil change:

“OIL MAINT REQD SOON” when the vehicle has been driven 4500 miles since the last time the reminder system was reset.

“OIL MAINT REQD” when the vehicle has been driven 5000 miles since the last time the reminder system was reset.

To reset the oil maintenance required message, do the following:

1)     Make sure the odometer display reads ‘ODO’.  If the display reads ‘Trip A’ or ‘Trip B’, use the TRIP meter reset knob (located
on the bottom left hand side of the instrument cluster) and change it to ‘ODO’.
2)     If the engine is running, turn it off at this time.
3)     While pressing the TRIP meter reset knob, turn on the ignition*.
4)     The odometer will display “------“. Continue pressing the reset knob until the odometer displays “000000” and release (about
        5 seconds).  You’re done!

*For those not familiar, to turn on the ignition, keep the foot off the brake pedal (or clutch in the case of manual transmission cars) and press / release the engine switch twice – the instrument cluster should be illuminated when the ignition is on (IG-ON).

Lexus recommends oil changes every 6 months or 5,000 miles, whatever comes first.  An inquiry to the Service Manager at Park Place Lexus in Grapevine, TX confirms there is no Severe Driving Conditions schedule.
